WINNIPEG SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA INTERNATIONAL
CONDUCTING SYMPOSIUM
The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra presents its third International Conducting Symposium, January 10-13, 2010 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This intensive four-day conducting workshop with strong focus on career development is open to conductors of all levels.
Faculty for the symposium will include Larry Livingston, Professor of Conducting, USC Thornton School of Music; Alexander Mickelthwate, Music Director of the WSO; Alexis Hauser, Conductor, McGill Symphony Orchestra, Schulich School of Music, McGill University, Montreal; Richard Lee, Resident Conductor of the WSO; Stephen Lugosi, Vice President Conductors and Artists, Thea Dispeker International Artists Management Agency, New York NY; Debbie Devine, acting coach, Los Angeles, CA; Morley Walker, Arts Columnist, Winnipeg Free Press; Trudy Schroeder, Executive Director, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Jean-Fran¨ois Phaneuf, Director of Artistic Operations, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
Repertoire for the Symposium will comprise: Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 complete; Mozart: Symphony No. 41 Mvmts 2 and 4; Brahms: Symphony No. 4 Mvmt 4; Dvorak: Symphony No. 9 Mvmt 4; Verdi: La forza del destino: Overture and Vincent Ho: Aboard the Amundsen (score to be provided on arrival)
The workshop will be limited to 12 full participants and 20 auditors. Full participants will conduct the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, plus 2 additional sessions with duo piano and string quartet. The symposium also includes sessions on how to obtain management and how to program a season, plus musician feedback, portfolio review, score study, media skills and instruction from renowned Los Angeles acting coach, Debbie Devine (acting coach of Jack Black, among others). Participants' sessions will be video-recorded and each participant will be supplied a DVD copy as per below uses.
Full participant fee is CAD/US $1500.00 (archival use of DVD granted for personal, non-promotional use only) OR CAD/US $1800.00 (promotional use of DVD granted for resumes and applications only, no Internet posting permitted). Auditor fee is $125.00 per day. Travel, hotel accommodation and meals are not included.
Applications must be postmarked by November 20, 2009 (Express post to Canada recommended, not regular parcel post). Full participants will be notified by December 10. A non-refundable fee of $75.00 (CAD or US) must accompany the application.
