Winnipeg, MB – March 2, 2010 – Inspired by music about lovers, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) presents two passionate concerts this weekend: Dangerous Liaisons (March 5) and One Thousand and One Arabian Nights (March 6)!
The Musically Speaking and Masterworks programs, conducted by WSO Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate, will both feature some of the most emotional, romantic and tumultuous pieces of our time. We will explore the folklore behind the music including Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, the story of a woman who told stories so captivating that they saved her life and captured the love of a King. Both evenings’ concerts will be filled with colourful, sensuous and exotic sounds, overflowing with luxurious passion!
Bartok’s lyrical Piano Concerto No. 3 is also on the program, with sensational German pianist Andreas Boyde. His wide-ranging repertoire encompasses all major areas of the piano literature, and has enabled him to appear as soloist with such renowned orchestras as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Hallé Orchestra Manchester and many others.
The WSO performs the Musically Speaking concert, Dangerous Liaisons, on Friday, March 5 at the Centennial Concert Hall at 8 pm. Tickets range from $18 to $61.
The WSO also performs the Masterworks concert, One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, on Saturday, March 6 at 8 pm at the Centennial Concert Hall. Tickets range from $18 to $75.
Tickets for both concerts are available through the WSO box office at 949-3999, online at wso.ca or through Ticketmaster 780-3333 or ticketmaster.ca.
