GALA FESTIVAL FINALE featuring the WSO

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is proud to be a part of the first-ever International Cello Festival of Canada at the Gala Festival Finale on Sunday, June 19.

The Festival, being held June 15-19, is presented as the final event for the Winnipeg Cultural Capital of Canada ARTS FOR ALL project. Winnipeg will be host to dozens of the world’s finest and most renowned cellists over five days of performances, master classes, workshops, and more. The Festival will finish with the WSO for a spectacular program that will offer rare performances including six cellists performing a variety of works with the WSO. The program also includes a cello orchestra of 55 cellists performing Popper’s Requiem and Song of the Birds. This is an event not to be repeated in Winnipeg any time soon.

The evening, hosted by Eric Friesen and directed by WSO Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate, will begin with a pre-concert chat (6:45 pm) with WSO Artistic Operations Associate James Manishen as he speaks about the great cellist and Winnipegger, Zara Nelsova.
