Music Connections Inner City Program

This is a highly collaborative program that involves approximately 200 students in Grades 4-6 from four inner city schools in Winnipeg. More than 80% of students are from Aboriginal heritage and the majority of the other 20% being from visible minority backgrounds. These students will build and learn to play their own Native American flute, as well as participate in workshops with numerous Aboriginal artists.

“Music Connections - Winnipeg” begins with a 12-week program that integrates Aboriginal and Western cultural traditions. It culminates with a community concert featuring the participating students and five brass musicians of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. This concert also includes a creative expression component where the students share about their Aboriginal heritage and traditions through music, dance, art, and multi-media.
