Enjoy a Music themed cruise – Local experts provide insights on European music, while shore excursions include a Strauss concert in Vienna and an organ recital in Melk. In Salzburg, explore Mozart’s birthplace and the stunning countryside where “the hills are alive with the sound of music!”

Our 2011-12 season has been a huge success and to help us celebrate the end of the season we would like to invite Soundcheck members and a guest to a special CLOSING WEEKEND DINING EVENT on Friday, May 4. This event is exclusively for Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra SoundCheck members!

We will start by enjoying dinner in the VIP room at Brooklynn’s Bistro followed by a short walk to the Concert Hall for the WSO’s majestic performance of Mahler’s 2nd Symphony.

Date: Friday, May 4, 2012

Time: 5:00pm cocktails, 5:30 pm dinner, 8:00 pm concert

Location: Brooklynn’s Bistro VIP Room, 177 Lombard Avenue

Cost: Dinner:$35 per person incl. tax & gratuity

Concert: SoundCheck members: $15 per person (and up to one guest)

SoundCheck Super and Extreme Pass holders: concert admission is free (bring a guest for only $10)

Dinners must be purchased no later than Thursday April 26 by calling the box office at 949-3999

12 compete for chance to perform with WSO

Twelve semi-finalists who will compete for cash prizes and a solo performance with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra have been announced by the Women’s Musical Club (WMC) of Winnipeg.

The biennial WMC McLellan Competition is open to advanced Manitoba classical musicians who are pursuing performance careers. A jury of local musicians judged the entries on CD. The semi-finalists are: Catherine Daniel, mezzo-soprano; Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk, viola; Andrew Erickson, classical guitar; Madeline Hildebrand, piano; Sarah Kirsch, soprano; Jari Piper, cello; Tanya Satteson, violin; Jennifer Sproule, mezzo-soprano; Jessica Strong, soprano; Lida Szkwarek, soprano; Sean Taubner, cello; and Nina Zhou, piano.
