“A practically superhuman keyboard technique with artistic eloquence that is second to none.”
- San Francisco Chronicle

We welcome one of the world’s rising stars in the piano world, Yuja Wang, in her WSO debut! A stunning talent, her playing combines the fearless imagination of youth with the discipline and precision of a mature artist.

Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 has garnered the greatest popularity and critical acclaim of his five piano concertos. Prokofiev himself performed the solo at the premiere in 1921.

Much-loved composer Rachmaninov carried on the great symphonic Russian tradition after Tchaikovsky. Including some of Rachmaninov’s lushest melodies, Symphonic Dances is his last completed work.

“Composed in 1996 to celebrate the dawn of Jerusalem’s third millennium, Penderecki’s Seven Gates of Jerusalem is an overwhelmingly powerful work. It is impossible to hear this symphony and not to feel awed, not just by the music, but also by the subject matter.”
- Classical Net Review

Krzysztof Penderecki’s Symphony No. 7 “Seven Gates of Jerusalem,” for four soloists, narrator, choir and orchestra is a monumental work composed to commemorate the third millennium of Jerusalem. It expresses the profundity of the human spirit and the power of religious devotion. Come hear this modern classic and meet Mr. Penderecki who will appear as one of this year’s distinguished guest composers.

“Ms. Glennie, as always an energetic and intensely focused performer, made the work’s rolls, rhythmic patterns and hard thwacks into something both musical and dramatic.”
- New York Times

One of the most eclectic and innovative musicians on the scene today, Dame Evelyn Glennie is the first person in musical history to successfully create and sustain a fulltime career as a solo percussionist. She will be performing the newly-commissioned Percussion Concerto by WSO composer-in-residence Vincent Ho.

We also present the return of John Corigliano’s Symphony No.1, a performance that won over the WSO audience, plus a second world premiere of a newly
commissioned overture by Winnipeg composer Randolph Peters.
